International Relief and Human Rights Initiative (IRHRI) is a beacon of hope in a world where human rights violations persist and vulnerable communities face immense challenges. Founded in 2014, IRHRI emerged from the vision of Mr. Greg Smith Havens, a former Congolese refugee, whose personal journey shaped the organization's mission. Mr. Havens, despite enduring severe disabilities, founded IRHRI to address pressing issues of political, civil, and economic rights violations, particularly affecting the world's most vulnerable populations, especially within Africa.

Our Mission

IRHRI is dedicated to championing human rights protection, sustainable peace and security, evidence-based advocacy, legal aid, livelihoods, and economic empowerment. Our mission extends to advocating for the rights of refugees, supporting their resettlement, and conducting research that addresses the unique challenges they face.

Our Impact

In the United States, IRHRI has supported over 250 immigrants, providing legal guidance and psychosocial support. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we extended our reach to assist refugees in Spokane, Washington, by providing crucial information and protective equipment.

In Uganda, IRHRI's initiatives have been impactful, particularly in addressing the issue of human trafficking in East Africa. We conduct social counseling and research on livelihoods, education, and health for refugees in urban areas and two refugee settlements: Nakivale and Kyaka. Our commitment to research seeks sustainable solutions for refugees, especially those facing political insecurity, vulnerability, and medical conditions.

Why Choose IRHRI?

IRHRI's choice to be based in West Virginia is strategic, given its affordable housing, a welcoming community, and proximity to West Virginia University—a source of affordable education. This choice aligns with our vision of diversifying Morgantown and supporting the economic environment.

As we navigate the complex landscape of human rights and relief efforts, IRHRI remains steadfast in its commitment to empowering lives, upholding rights, and building a more just and inclusive world for all.
